What to Do If You Lose Your Driver Tag

Product Guides

Losing something you rely on for daily driving is stressful enough on its own, without wondering whether it's now a security risk. If you've lost your GuardOn driver tag, the good news is that it doesn't leave your vehicle exposed, as long as you take a couple of quick steps.

What the driver tag actually does

Your driver tag is what identifies you to the system fitted in your vehicle, working alongside your Ghost Immobiliser or tracker to confirm it's you behind the wheel. It's a small, physical item, which is exactly why it's the sort of thing that can end up lost in a coat pocket, a bag you swapped last week, or somewhere at home you haven't checked yet. It happens, and the process for dealing with it is built with that in mind.

Step one: contact support immediately

The first thing to do is get in touch with GuardOn support as soon as you notice the tag is missing. Don't wait to see if it turns up first. The moment you contact us, we can deactivate the lost tag so it can no longer be used to identify you or interact with your vehicle's system. This is the single most important step, and it takes only a few minutes.

Step two: arrange a replacement

Once the lost tag is deactivated, the next step is getting a replacement issued and set up. Support will talk you through this, and it's a straightforward process, similar to the original installation but quicker since the rest of the system is already in place.

What protects your vehicle in the meantime

Here's the part that matters most: your vehicle doesn't lose its protection just because a tag is missing. Between deactivation and getting your replacement, you can control everything remotely from the GuardOn app. Your vehicle stays protected throughout, because the app gives you the same oversight you'd normally have, without needing the physical tag in hand.

This is exactly why the system is designed the way it is. A single lost item shouldn't be able to compromise your security, and it doesn't, provided you act promptly and let support know straight away.

Why speed matters

The gap between losing a tag and reporting it is the only window where any theoretical risk exists, and it closes the moment you contact support and the old tag is deactivated. There's no need to panic if you've lost yours today. Get in touch, get it deactivated, and the app has you covered while the replacement is arranged.

If the tag turns up later

Sometimes a "lost" tag isn't lost at all, it's just been misplaced and turns up a few days later at the bottom of a bag or down the side of a car seat. Once support has deactivated it, it stays deactivated. Finding the old one doesn't undo that, so there's no security risk in it resurfacing. Just let support know you've found it, and they'll confirm whether you still need the replacement or can carry on with the original once it's reactivated.

A quick checklist

If you've just realised your driver tag is missing, here's the order to follow:

  • Contact GuardOn support straight away to report it lost
  • Confirm the lost tag has been deactivated
  • Arrange your replacement tag
  • Use the app to keep an eye on your vehicle in the meantime

That's it. It's a quick fix, not an emergency, as long as you don't sit on it.
